Our Story

Soulmates Veterinary Hospital was born out of love — and loss. When Drs. Shashikant and Vijayalakshmi Kulgod lost two of their beloved dogs due to inadequate veterinary care in smaller cities, they knew something had to change.

Driven by their shared passion for animals and deep frustration with the gap in veterinary services outside major metros, they founded Soulmates to bring world-class companion animal healthcare to tier-2 and tier-3 cities across India.

Their mission is simple: no pet should suffer for lack of access.

Meet The Founders

Dr. Shashikant is a surgical gastroenterologist and Director of BHS Lakeview Hospital, Belagavi. A passionate animal lover and seasoned healthcare leader, he co-founded Soulmates Veterinary Hospital to bridge the gap in small animal healthcare in tier-2 and tier-3 cities across India.

Dr. Vijayalakshmi is a pediatrician at BHS Lakeview Hospital, Belagavi. Her lifelong love for animals and her compassionate approach to healthcare inspired her to co-found Soulmates Veterinary Hospital, where she leads initiatives rooted in empathy, warmth, and family-like care for pets.

A Family of Doctors — and Dogs

The Kulgod family isn’t just a family of doctors — they’re a family where medicine and love for animals go hand in hand. With eleven doctors (and counting!) and an equally growing pack of beloved dogs, compassion and care are woven into the fabric of their daily lives.

Drs. Shashikant and Vijayalakshmi Kulgod, founders and promoters of renowned healthcare institutions like Lakeview Hospital in Belagavi and Radon Cancer Hospital in Hubballi, have spent decades transforming the healthcare landscape of North Karnataka. But even with all their medical expertise, they experienced the helplessness of losing two of their own dogs due to inadequate veterinary care in smaller towns.

That loss became a turning point — and the seed from which Soulmates Veterinary Hospital was born.

With a house full of doctors and dogs, Soulmates wasn’t just a project — it was a calling. A place where companion animals are treated with the same respect, dignity, and high standards of care as any human patient. For the Kulgods, dogs don’t simply live in their hearts — they take center stage in their homes and lives.
